All,

I bought the SE or Extended version of the Fellowship of the Rings. It was entirely worth the money. The film has a bunch of extra footage that truly helps it along. They also increased the audio track quality / density.

However, the 2 DVDs of extras would be worth the price of admission ($25 at Best Buy during the first week), even without the movie! The sheer creativity and adaptability of PJ and his team (especially WETA) ... man oh man!

Its so good that today about 8 of us from work sat over at a friends house just watching the "extras" (Appendices) DVDs. Then again, most of us are interested in animation, digital art, miniatures, scale, cinema, and computers, all of which come into play.

Its a cool product!

Let's see... if I remember right Tom Bombadil was a most interesting figure in Vol 1... and the movie completely dumped him. Do he, and in fact the entire scene in the forest with Old Man Willow and Tom's wife, appear in the Extende Version?

Jagur,

I'm not sure I understand your question. Ask again?

U-Turn,

No, they didn't include that. They do include additional footage of some of the journey to Bree, however, and tons more stuff in Hobbiton. Almost every chapter has additional footage and its all worth it. The additional footage from Lothlorien was the most valuable, I thought.

Hmm...I might have to get that out now. Some of my friends were supposed to be in it (they were extras- mostly elves) but they're not sure if they were cut from the movie or just hard to spot in all the mayhem. Dang, wished I'd auditioned for a part- I'm just about short enough to be a hobbit.

Yeah, pretty disappointed about ol' Tom Bombadil too!

p/s I get to ride a lot of those trails in the movie :D

I'll address this in 'first in, last out' order:

1) yes, you may view the movie with the scenes cut from the general release.

2) Sit your punk ass down and start saving some money. Rewrite your above sentace 100 times, as follows:

cool i might get that but first i gotta sock away some kash for spending on japanes stripers with rhysling

CUT TO: Forest; orcs hunting for our heroic party.

<Frodo comes crashing through the undergrowth, leaps off a 5 foot drop and crushes three orcs with his mighty golden unicycle>

"Hurrah!"

I checked airfare to get to NZ and it ranged from about $1200 US for a discount fare to $1900 US for a more standard fare. At those prices it is hard to justify a quick little muni trip down there.

But if NZ hosted a UNICON and could arrange for better airfare prices I'm going.

That's almost as much as it would cost us to fly to the UK/US! Most of the cheap fares to London or LA are slightly over NZ$2000, which I guess works out at about US$1000.

Everytime I think of flying off overseas I have weigh that up with whether or not I can do without a KH MUni for a little while longer!

I'm not sure there are enough unicyclists here to host a UNICON, but Australia maybe? Oh well, one more week before I start a real job and earn some money for UNICON XII!
