  • 180 uni spin (surprise surprise)

As my name implies I am a novice at unicycling, and am having trouble landing one of the more fundamental unicycle tricks. The 180 uni spin, now everyone has got through this a million time. But for all the advice I've read and other stuff, none of it seems to help me. I guess I'm just a slow learner. Anyway heres my problem. I videod myself just to see where I'm going wrong. Everyone seems to say its that you don't have enough confidence and that your not committing. My video seems to say otherwise. I have enough gumption to flick my legs in, but my problem is that I don't get enough height, every single time I'm just barely clearing the wheel giving me very little time to get my feet back in. I have been at this for over a month, and I've put a good many hours, but I still can't land it, what frustrates me the most is these people that say they learned it about 30 minutes, and its taken me over a month and I still can't get it. IT's REALLY FRUSTRATING

sounds to me like the only advice anyone can give you is to jump higher.. maybe try kicking your legs out to the side more. Good luck

I only just got my first one down last friday and you dont actualy have to flick your legs out much since its only a 180. Also what i tried is just doing a 180 then smacking my feet in as fast as i can to hit the spokes(not too hard though) So that i could get the feel for kicking in. At the start just jump about up to the crown i think i did so you have enough time. Sorry i have only just come on so you might have posted the video on the video section but can u give me the link so i can see what you do?

The problem is, is no matter how hard I try I can't jump up to the crown of the unicycle. It's a large height issue, I made a video and I don't even come close to the crown.

I might not be any help but perhaps if you post the video people who know what they're doing could be more assistance?

Your bouncing seems a bit weird, almost like you're not very comfortable with hopping around. I'd bet that if you can get over that, you can do a consistant unispin.

I'm now at the stage you are too - I've learnt to unispin, stopped riding my 20" for a year and a half and can't bring myself to hop properly now.

Can you jump that high if you're jumping off the ground? I expect you can, so then you should also be able to do it jumping off the pedals. The problem is that it's difficult to jump with exactly equal force on both feet so the pedals stay level.

Try just jumping off the pedals and landing on the ground. Don't spin the uni and don't worry about where the pedals go. Just see how high you can get.

After that, work on no-footers. Jump off the pedals and land back on the pedals. Start small and work on it until you can jump up to the height of the crown and land back on the pedals.

Then - go land the unispin.

hey I want to thank you guys for the help. Also tmoyer thanks for the advice. Actually I've gotten very good at that. I can do no footers very well. I can kick my feet way out and land them back in. Today I had one foot completely on the pedal and the other foot just nicked it. I'm a slow learner, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to start landing them soon. I'll post a vid once I get it....thanks guys.
