I just purchase Pete Perron's Red Menace. I haven't got it dialed in our geared up all the way. I should be able to go a bit faster but I doubt I'll make it to the high twenties.

                      • Return of the Red Menace!

So the Red Menace gets let out of the closet and feels the wind in its hair on the open road.
What sort of gearing are you using? Does it still have the disc brake and carbon fiber cranks? That unicycle was way ahead of its time. I remember reading about it almost 5 years ago when I bought the Florian Green from Pete. Any word from Pete about the Purple Phaze?
Here's a pic of the Red Menace and it's litter mates Purple Phaze and Florian Green. They've all gone their separate ways but the family resemblance is striking.

I'm running 1.44:1 right now. With the long cranks it's hard to spin fast so it really demands high gear ratios so I'll be going up to 1.69 and 1.96 soon. I rode Purple Phaze at 1.96:1 many years ago and I'm looking forward to trying that on Red Menace with the seat post actually high enough.

Still got the disc brake and carbon fiber cranks, and Wallis seat.

I don't think Pete has heard anything about Purple Phaze since he sold it.

I rarely set out to be a speed demon (thinking of kid's tuition and how I won't be able to pay it with a broken leg always slows me down to a more reasonable pace) but I did finally manage to break 20mph during the Hike, Bike, and Paddle event last week. It must have been that punk ass kid trying to race me on his BMX.

My greatest fear is that, when I die, my wife will sell all my unicycles for what I told her they cost.

Finally got a flat seat on my guni (have been working on the reinforcing plate) and this was the trial run. Can't say I credit the saddle with my increase in speed - more likely that having ridden the guni for the first time in ages I was feeling more comfortable on it.
