  • Seattle City Tour for NAUCC - July 16

Please join us on a 9 mile out and back tour from Gas Works Park to the Seattle Waterfront via Seattle Center.

We will ride near the following sights:
Gas Works - View of Seattle from Lake Union
Fremont Bridge - Iconic Seattle draw bridge
Westlake Cycle Track - Newest cycle track along Lake Union
Lake Union Park - Gateway to Amazonia
Seattle Center - Space Needle, Museum of Pop Culture, International Fountain, site of Seattle's World's Fair
Sculpture Park & Elliott Bay Trail - North end of Seattle waterfront
Ivar's Fish Bar (Lake Union) - After ride dinner

Start at Gas Works Park at 4pm and return around 6:30pm.
    2101 N Northlake Way, Seattle WA 98103

Gas Works Park is the most popular park in Seattle so finding a parking spot can be difficult on a sunny day. Please do not leave valuables in your car.

Meet at Burke Gilman Trail on the north side of Northlake Way, in front of NW Marine Trade Association building.

After ride dinner at Ivarís Fish Bar (401 NE Northlake Way) which is .7 miles to the east of Gas Works Park.

    What to Bring:
Unicycle [ 29er / 36er would be the best for the whole route]
    Helmet
    Water
    Snacks
Small Pump, patches, tire levers and basic multi-tool
Perhaps wear a bright shirt for visibility
    Cell Phone

Course condition: Mostly on paved cycle tracks, paved trails and bike lanes but there are also brief sections on downtown streets with no bike lane. Be prepared to ride in a bit of traffic. We will make periodic stops to let people catch up. Route is mostly flat with some steeper sections when riding towards the waterfront and back to Seattle Center.

You ride at your own risk!

Want to ride a shorter route? Turn around at the end of the Westlake Cycle track near 9th Ave N and head back to Gas Works for a 5 mile round trip.

I am absolutely interested! We have to leave on July 21st, so will miss the Marathon/Tunnel ride and other stuff. Non-competitive rides are one of the great things about going to large events like this, but the schedule tends to fill up so much, it squeezes the "necessary" stuff out. These things are necessary too.

I also hope to have a chance at the IUF Slalom in the morning of the 21st, since I've been restoring my broken old Miyata which broke in Spain last year while I was warming up for the Slalom.

I look forward to meeting you.

Noli and Phil plan on doing a Dan Heaton video locale tour on Tuesday in Seattle. I'm sure Gas Works park will be part of that tour. I haven't heard the details yet.

On Monday Jason and AJ will host a muni preview.

Someone mentioned teaching a Salsa class (without unicycles I think).

I believe we'll be finalizing the schedule soon.

And I you. I'll be available to help a lot of the time. Maybe I can fit in a Sumo "workshop" at some point if someone isn't already doing it.

        Sounds like Jim Sowers!

How accurate is the one on the NAUCC website? We've been assuming things are happening on the days they are listed. Normally it doesn't matter as much for me, but we're having to leave early, so it will be good to know the best possible lineup, or how close the current schedule is.

        Thanks!

          Schedule

The schedule on the website is still accurate but we don't have times for everything yet. It's like herding cats or should I say unicyclists. I see times for the City Tour, Criterium, Muni, Flatland, Street 10K and Marathon.

We've had beautiful riding weather these past couple of week. Hope it stays this way.
