Sorry you can't make it this year, Kenny. There are always years to come.

I was honored that you and Prudence actually made it up here one year for the ride. But you're still a sissy for not showing up this year. See you in the future, Jerry.

This is kind of creeping up. The ride is next Saturday, 30 August. It's time to start working out the logistics. I may try to drive my ailing truck up to Hyak because I have a friend who is attending who will be on a bicycle. I see that 7 people are planning to go but there is only the one bike that I know of. I will need to know if I need to buy any Discover passes for this ride. They are required at Rattlesnake Lake as well as the Hyak parking lot.

Who's going, how many people can you take, how many unicycles or bicycles can you take, and do you need a Discover pass?

Harper, what you really need to do is drive that ailing truck up to Hyak, and have a back-up shuttle so you can just leave it there. Its mission on this earth will have been fulfilled, and either the elements or the state can take it from there.

I really regret not being able to do this ride this year. I console myself by remembering that the one International Harper Day ride where you didn't show up, I still did. Now we're even, although you remain older.

I was up there on the trail today, checking out what I got myself into. Had a great ride! Took off from RattleSnake parking lot, went up a bit over 7 miles, couldn't figure out why I was so tired, it seems almost flat. Decided I just wasn't feelin it today and turned around to come back and realized it was more uphill than it seemed, flew back down to the parking lot easily.

Excited to do the whole thing downhill on Saturday!

There's a neat section of the trail that goes from North Bend to Rattlesnake Lake. It's an 8 to 9 mile section of trail. So a 16 to 18 mile out and back. A great Coker ride. One of my favorite rides when I was in Seattle.

Tomorrow I'm going to buy Discover passes. Before that I need to know how many bicycles, how many unicycles, how many cars or trucks, and how many people already have Discover passes. So far I know that Anton will have a Dodge Durango with a bike rack and that he can haul 5 people and already has a Discover pass.

OK, here's what I think I have. (Unicyclists involved so LOTS of unknowns still)

From the SARs unicycle meetup board

Brandi Cason (meet us at Rattlesnake? Issaquah?)
                          Michael Prado
Noli Ergas (meet us at Issaquah? At Hyak?)
                          Bruce Dawson
                          Matt Haverly +1 (bicyclist? unicyclist?)
                          me +1 bicyclist

                          From other communication, RSU, etc.

                          John Childs
                          Anton
                          Kevin Williams

This is 11 people, 1 or 2 bikes, and 9 or 10 unicycles we have to get to Hyak unless Noli rides up to meet us there. Kevin has a truck that can carry lots of unicycles (7, 8, 9?) and 2 people (4 people?) and has a Discover Pass. Anton has a Durango with a bike rack that will carry 4 bikes (how many unicycles?) and 5 people and has a Discover Pass. We will need another car to go to Hyak with a Discover Pass and a shuttle car with a Discover Pass.

I will buy 2 Discover Passes unless I hear from someone by this afternoon who has one and is willing to drive to Hyak with riders or be the shuttle car.

                          See you Saturday.

                            Here's the scoop:

From the SARs unicycle meetup board

                            Michael Prado
Noli Ergas (meet us at Issaquah? At Hyak?)
                            Matt Haverly +1 (bicyclist? unicyclist?)
                            me +1 bicyclist

                            From other communication, RSU, etc.

                            John Childs
                            Anton
                            Kevin Williams

This is now 9 people, 1 or 2 bikes, and 7 or 8 unicycles we have to get to Hyak unless Noli rides up to meet us there. I think we're in fat city just taking 2 vehicles to the top. I bought 1 Discover Pass which should cover us.

See you tomorrow. It may rain so be prepared.

That was interesting. We had six unicyclists and a bicyclist on a very rainy day. I lost my international status. I called it National Harper Day but I preferred Noli's term Domestic Harper Day. Attached is a photo taken by a couple who were walking into the tunnel when we started the ride. Left to right: Matt Haverly, Noli Ergas, Kevin Williams, half of the photographer couple, Marc Nolan, Anton Schoenbacher, Greg Harper, John Childs. The boys got me a Leatherman Wave, a roll of duct tape, and a lighter. Kevin brought Hostess cupcakes for all. A fun and pretty ride despite the rain. Thanks, all, for attending.
